When we were in Nepal, we hiked up to a very remote school in the foothills of the Himalayan mountains. It had three rooms with benches/desks and a blackboard. One of the teachers hiked an hour just to get to the school! The Grand Circle Foundation was starting to build a toilet for this school. Previously, they had no toilet and used the surrounding landscape. They told us that usually the girls stopped attending school when they started their periods and were hoping this would make a difference in their lives. Access to sanitary supplies for girls in third world countries can be so important, something we often take for granted here. Thank you for your work. What a great gift.
Thank you so much for your contribution to Sew Powerful, Linda! That means so much to me and will help the girls in Zambia. We also traveled to Nepal also and while we were there we visited a home that housed women who had been rescued from brothels in Mumbai. They had been taken from their villages with promise for work. They told us their stories. Travel really opens our eyes to the struggles of poverty in other countries. Thank you again! Kathy
